Writing and stuff

I'm completing my dip back into Buffy fandom by writing a fic. It's based on how the show has very deliberately played with the slayer/coming out narrative and a fun discussion on tumblr over how Buffy & Faith's relationship must look to people who don't know them. Someone wondered if there was any outsider POV fic about it, and if there wasn't then there will be soon because I'm writing it.

The thing is I don't tend to like outsider POV in relation to ships. It's not something I seek out and I find it can be a bit forced - this random character who doesn't know the other characters but thinks they must be perfect together *eyerolls* So why am I writing it? Because it's actually a lot of fun to write. I'm enjoying making up backstories for these random Sunnydale High students that will probably never make it into the fic but I know them anyway. Also it's an interesting challenge to think about how canon events would look to other characters. 

While I'm always going to pay attention to what I write at least bearing some resemblance to the characters in whatever media I'm writing about, it's also nice to just have fun and write about what I want, how I want. If other people like it then that's great. If not, well then it's not the end of the world and at least I enjoyed myself doing it.

Back in the day I used to write embarrassing self insert Buffy fics so in way it feels like I've come full circle :D
